Soni honours 1,500 meritorious students

School Education Minister OP Soni honoured those who have scored above 80% in the Cass X and XII exams of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) at a special function at DAV Public School on Friday.

The award ceremony was held to mark the tremendous improvement in the district results besides appreciating teachers who took extra classes for students. A total of 1,500 students and 150 teachers were honoured.

Soni said, “Performers will also be encouraged and rewarded for their hard work. It is a matter of pride that government schools have outdone private ones. The state stands second in the board results across the nation. Teachers and students have worked hard for excellent results. I am proud of the teachers, principals and students.”

The minister also stressed upon the efforts of his department to curb the cheating menace in the state. He said the issue of shortage of seats would be dealt with and principals will be recruited directly. Besides meritorious students, other achievers were also honoured.

Deputy Commissioner Shivdular Singh Dhillon also addressed the gathering. He said, “This is a moment of glory for us. Our teachers burnt midnight oil for students. The school heads can hold special camps with the district bureau of employment for guiding the students.”

DEO Salwinder Singh Samra elaborated upon the improvement in schools located in border areas.

Among those present were DEO Salwinder Singh Samra, DEO (Elementary) Jugraj Singh, Deputy District Education Officer Rajesh Sharma and Sudeep Kaur.
