Ludhiana, December 5
As many as 15 locations have been identified for the Ludhiana Smart City Limited (LSCL) project “Public Bike Sharing System” in a meeting of technical sub-committee of the LSCL today.
Sanjay Goel, one of the directors of the LSCL-cum-chairman of Indian Institute of Architects Punjab Chapter, said, “The members discussed various proposed projects, including bike sharing, cycle tracks at Focal Point, construction of multi-level parking lot at the Feroze Gandhi Market and modification of intersections.”
He said, “The bike sharing project would be very beneficial for the city. It has been designed for Zone D. The LSCL also asked the consultant firm to speed up their work.”
An official told that the files of the discussed project would be sent to the state-level technical committee. He said the local committee has already given its nod for the projects but a final decision would be taken by the higher authorities.
In January 2016, Ludhiana was included in the first list of 20 cities which were to be developed as smart cities. However, the projects under the smart city mission have been moving at a snail’s pace.
A much awaited project of the railway over bridge and railway under bridge at Pakhowal road was yet to see the light of day while development of Malhar road as a smart road and many others projects has yet not commenced. CEO of LSCL-cum-MC Additional Commissioner Sanyam Aggarwal could not be contacted for his comments.
