The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has rescued six women, who had been trafficked from Nepal to Delhi with promises to be taken to gulf countries for salary-based work, from a house in Bhalaswa in northwest Delhi.
Suspecting a large-scale international human trafficking racket operating from the Indian and Myanmar border, DCW chief Swati Maliwal has issued a notice to the police alleging inaction two nights after the rescue exercise which was conducted over a complaint through email from Santosh who works with the Rescue Foundation.
The DCW chairperson questioned the handling of the case by the police and sought from the Sagarpur Police Station SHO a copy of the FIR as well as “reasons for not registering proper statements in the matter”.
In her notice, Maliwal has sought an explanation from the SHO over “lackadaisical and insensitive” approach of police personnel in this matter.
The commission has received a call today from Manipur helpline that a group of Nepali men and women have crossed Manipur border to Myanmar, while another group of 16 Nepali women have been detained at Manipur Border.
Maliwal said “This is an extremely sensitive issue as the information provided by the rescued women matches the information received from the Manipur helpline. It confirms the commission’s apprehensions that a large scale international trafficking racket is running in the capital.”
