Six drug peddlers arrested in Jagraon

LUDHIANA: The Jagraon police received a major breakthrough in its drive against drugs with the arrest of six peddlers. The police seized 653 gm of heroin, 610 gm of cocaine and Rs 30 lakh in cash from the suspects, who were arrested in three separate operations by the Counter Intelligence Cell and the Jagraon police during the past 24 hours.

The Jagraon police received a major breakthrough in its drive against drugs with the arrest of six peddlers. The police seized 653 gm of heroin, 610 gm of cocaine and Rs 30 lakh in cash from the suspects, who were arrested in three separate operations by the Counter Intelligence Cell and the Jagraon police during the past 24 hours. The suspects have been identified as Khushhaal, alias Sahil Sharma, of Durgapuri Ludhiana, Gagan Vij of Chander Nagar Ludhiana, Ranjit Singh, alias Jeetu, of Miniya village in Moga district, Ranjit Singh, alias Mani, of Sidhwan Kalan village, Gurdev Singh and Darshna Kaur of Kul Gehna village in Ludhiana. 

The police have registered case against all the suspects under the NDPS Act and further investigation is on. Giving details, the SSP, Jagraon, Varinder Singh Brar, said following a tip off, a joint team of the Counter Intelligence Wing and the Raikot police arrested two drug peddlers and seized 500 gm of heroin and 610 gm of cocaine from them. 

The suspects were identified as Khushhaal, alias Sahil Sharma, of Durgapuri and Gagan Vij of Chander Nagar Ludhiana, he added. “The police have seized 100 gram of heroin from Khushhaal, besides 400 gm of heroine and 610 gm of cocaine from Gagan Vij. The suspects were arrested from the Johlan road, near Raikot. The police also recovered Rs 30 lakh in cash from Gagan Vij. He had earned this money by selling drugs,” the SSP added. 

In the second operation, a police team arrested Ranjit Singh, alias Jeetu, of Miniya village and seized 100 gm of heroin from him. The suspect was arrested from the drain outside Chakkar village yesterday evening. The police also confiscated a Maruti Ritz car (bearing registration No. PB 65 AH 2536) in which the suspect was trying to smuggle the drug. 

According to the police, the suspect used to bring drugs from Daulewala village in Moga district and sell these in the Jagraon area. 

In another operation, a team of the Anti-Narcotic Cell of Jagraon arrested two drug peddlers, including a woman and seized 53 gm of heroin from them. The police also confiscated a Tata Indica Manza car (bearing registration No. PB 03 2202) in which the suspects were smuggling the drug. 

The police team also arrested another drug peddler and seized 35 kg of poppy husk from him. The suspect has been identified as against Ranjit Singh, alias Mani, of Sidhwan Kalan village, near Jagraon. The suspect was arrested by a police team led by Sub-Inspector Chamkaur Singh at a check post on the Chowkimaan-Virk link road. The police also impounded a Canter (bearing registration No. PB 10 CH 8676) in which the suspect used to smuggle poppy husk. 

According to the police, the suspect used to bring poppy husk from Jammu and Kashmir and sell it in the Jagraon area.
