Amritsar, July 25

Various Sikh organisations have joined hands on panthic and social issues prevailing in the state.

A meeting has been scheduled tomorrow at Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh to chalk out the programme.

This time the three organisations — the Dal Khalsa, SAD (Amritsar) and United Akali Dal (Gurdeep Singh Bathinda) — have taken this initiative. They have also approached other likeminded groups to join them in their mission.

It has been learnt that the other organisations and parties that may participate, included SAD (Taksali), BSP(Bahujan Mukti Morcha), Nava Punjab Party (Dr Dharamvira Gandhi), SAD (Delhi) and other student organisations.

Besides, some personalities who have been invited for this meeting included SGPC’s former general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, former secretary Harcharan Singh, Karnail Singh Panjauli, Narayan Singh, Rajwinder Singh Bains, Mandheer Singh and Harsimran Singh Anandpur Sahib.

Dal Khalsa’s spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said that some meetings were conducted earlier too to reach a consensus on several issues that relates to ensure punishment to Bargarhi sacrilege incidents, programme related to ensuing 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, release of Sikh political prisoners from jails and SYL issue.

“The initial three organisations have given their consent to proceed jointly on these issues. We have invited other organisations too for the Friday meeting. Thereafter, a coordination committee could be constituted to chalk out further move in the next phase that could be social, religious and political too”, he said.

Earlier, various organisations initiated common minimum programme to get along together but could not carry on due to difference of opinion. The Dal Khalsa never recognised the sanctity of ‘parallel jathedars’ appointed during the 2015 Sarbat Khalsa held at Chabba village by the United Akali Dal and SAD (Amritsar), the key organisers of this congregation.
