Signature drive for voter awareness begins in city

JALANDHAR: Taking a unique initiative for sensitising voters to the need to exercise their franchise during the upcoming general elections, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary, Jalandhar Cantonment constituency, Nayan Jassal, who is also -cum-Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) has started a signature drive at the RTA office.

Taking a unique initiative for sensitising voters to the need to exercise their franchise during the upcoming general elections, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary, Jalandhar Cantonment constituency, Nayan Jassal, who is also -cum-Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) has started a signature drive at the RTA office.

The RTA Secretary said a flex had been put up at the RTA office with a voter pledge stating that voters would exercise their franchise without any fear.

She said people coming to the RTA office were being sensitised and motivated to take part in the campaign.

Dr Jassal said the aim was to ensure maximum participation of the voters in the coming poll.

She said the administration was laying thrust to generate awareness among the masses regarding their voting rights so that people could exercise their franchise enthusiastically.

She said special thrust was being laid on encouraging young and Persons With Disabilities (PwD) voters to come out and cast their vote during the poll, adding that the initiative was also a part of the ongoing Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.
