Jammu, August 23

On the eve of Janmashtami, a grand procession was taken out in Jammu depicting the life and times of Lord Krishna. Thousands of people took part in the ‘shoba yatra’ which was taken out from historical Geeta Bhawan. The procession started after performance of religious rituals at Shri Raghunath Temple.

Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha along with various religious and social organisations hold the yatra on Janmashtami every year, a tradition going on since the erstwhile Dogra rulers.

Religious procession passed through Ragunath Market, City Chowk, Purani Mandi, Link road, Jain Bazaar, Panjtirth and culminated at Shri Ragunath Temple. Various tableaus showcasing the life of Lord Krishna were also part of the procession.

“I have been participating in the yatra every year. It is a tradition which also highlights the strong inter-community bond existing in Jammu,” said Anil Sharma from Panjthirthi.
