The Himachal Pradesh Pollution Control Board has issued a notice to the Shanan power house authorities, Jogindernagar, in Mandi district asking it to stop the release of silt into the Uhal river in Mandi. There were frequent complaints by local residents against the Shanan power house authorities that it was releasing silt into the river, causing water pollution and harming aquatic culture.
The notice was issued by Dr RK Pruthi, Member Secretary of the pollution control board.
In the notice, it was stated that according to the NGT orders, it is mandatory for the power project authorities to release 15 per cent water into the river, but the latter was violating the norm.
Narender Saini and other residents had complained to the board that the Shanan power house authorities was polluting the Uhal river and was not releasing sufficient water for the survival of aquatic culture. A board team inspected the power house site and found some irregularities. Pruthi has asked the authorities to follow the direction or face action.
