A month has passed since several women employees accused the district manager of Markfed of sexual harassment, but the special investigation team (SIT) of the police, constituted to probe the allegations, is yet to complete its inquiry.

The SIT has been waiting for the final report of the department’s anti-sexual committee.

The district manager of Punjab Markfed, Kulwinder Singh, landed in a soup after the women employees of the department had accused him of sexual and mental harassment earlier in November. He was placed immediately placed under suspension by the department.

An anti-sexual harassment committee of the department was asked to hold an inquiry into the charges.

The police had also formed a special team headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Richa Agnihotri, to probe the issue. The team had recorded the statement of seven women employees, who had jointly filed a complaint with the police. Inspector Paramjit Kaur, SHO, Woman police station; and Sukhinder Singh, SHO, Ranjit Avenue police station; are other members of the committee.

One of the employees told the police that “she had gone to meet the district manager to get leave sanctioned, but he made sexual advancements towards her”.

She also alleged that the suspect had also called her on her mobile phone.

Refuting the allegations, Kulwinder Singh had said, “These employees were asked to work and leave of the one of the employees was denied due to extreme pressure of work. However, they made baseless allegations. An inter-departmental rivalry is another reason behind these baseless allegations.”

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lakhbir Singh, said while the SIT was yet to receive the report of department’s anti-sexual committee for concluding the investigation, the suspect had been summoned again for questioning.

He had appeared before the SIT for recording his statement in the past as well.
