Residents of Sector 47-D have alleged a scam in the laying of sewer lines in the area.

Staging a protest today, residents claimed that they did not want the existing sewers to be replaced as these were in good condition.

Nirmal Dutt, a leader of the CHB Residents Welfare Association, said residents never demanded for the change of sewer lines but the Municipal Corporation has started laying it on its own.

Residents have already given it in writing to the MC office and the area councillor not to dig up the land in front of their houses as buildings might collapse due to the “unwanted” sewerage work being carried out in their area.

Sandeep Bhadwaj, a Congress leader, alleged that it was a big scam and needed an investigation immediately.

AAP leader and the party’s Lok Sabha candidate Harmohan Dhawan also joined the residents in their protest. He said the work was not only causing inconvenience to area residents but also endangering the foundation of the houses.

“The project is being executed thoughtlessly and without any planning. It will affect the safety and security of the residents,” he added.

Dhawan spoke to the MC Chief Engineer and asked him to stop the work immediately and repair the roads which have been dug up for the purpose. The AAP leader claimed that the Chief Engineer assured him that nothing would be done against the wishes of local residents and filling and repair of the roads would start tomorrow.

Dutt said crores were being spent on unnecessary works. He said the whole issue should be investigated thoroughly.
