Seminar on copyright, plagiarism held at CUP

The intellectual property rights (IPR) cell of the Central University of Punjab (CUP) organised a two-day awareness seminar on “Scientific Literature Searches and Plagiarism Detection Software” here on Thursday.

The seminar was organised in collaboration with the Punjab State Council of Science and Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh. Professor Sushil Kumar Kansal, Dr SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Dr Ashwini Siwal, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, Delhi University, Delhi, were key speakers. Faculty members and research scholars from various departments participated.

Dr Sunil Mittal, associate professor, Dept of Environment Science and Technology, gave the welcome address and introduced the programme theme.

Professor Sushil discussed the key points to be considered while preparing a research paper to avoid rejection by the publisher. Accordingly, abstracts and conclusion play the most important role in selecting or rejecting of the research paper.

Dr Ashwini Siwal elaborated on the copyright and plagiarism issues in detail. Kanan, Deputy Librarian, shared his views on the university’s digital initiatives and discussed how this would be useful for the scholars.

Dr Bhupinder, Assistant Librarian, imparted training to participants in various anti-plagiarism softwares. Dr Preeti Khetarpal, Assistant Professor and registered patent agent, gave an orientation of the patent system of India and trained the participants for patent literature searches.
