Security strengthened for Republic Day

JAMMU: Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, security across the state has been tightened, with forces deployed in full strength to thwart any attempt to disrupt various functions on the occasion.

Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, security across the state has been tightened, with forces deployed in full strength to thwart any attempt to disrupt various functions on the occasion.

The police have set up security checkpoints at all entry points to Jammu and frisking, checking of people and vehicles was being done thoroughly.

Governor Satya Pal Malik will take the salute on the Republic Day parade at gymnasium ground of Jammu University. The authorities are also using drones and CCTVs to ensure foolproof security.

“Special security arrangements have been made for the two main functions in Jammu and Srinagar,” said Dilbag Singh, DGP.

Regarding security arrangements alog the borders, the DGP said, “Security forces are fully alert to foil infiltration attempts.”

He said the main focus would be on the venue. However, other areas will also be under strict vigil and all suspected vehicles and people are being checked at different checkposts across the state.

During the function, the JU and surrounding areas will be sealed for all vehicles.

In the circular issued by the Traffic Police, four points leading to the function venue will be sealed for all vehicles. Only vehicles having passes issued by the police will be allowed in the venue.

Gujjar Nagar Bridge, Bikram Chowk, Panama Chowk and Qasim Nagar down movement will remain closed till the function is over.

Meanwhile, Inspector General, CRPF, Ravideep Sahi, said: “We have done more planning because of the threat perception. Multi-tier security is in place for Republic Day and the area domination is being done effectively.” —TNS
