Jind, January 15

District officials undertook security audit of electronic voting machines (EVMs) here on Tuesday. DC-cum-district election officer Amit Khatri said the police had been directed to strengthen security around the EVM strongroom.

He said police deployment would be round the clock. He said for the first time in Haryana, voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines would be used in the byelection. VVPAT machines would enable the voter to know whether or not the vote cast through the EVM had gone into the account of the desired candidate, he added.

General observer Saurabh Bhagat said another observer to oversee expenditure by contestants assumed duty on Tuesday. —TNS
