Scrap dealer robbed of Rs 4 lakh

Two armed youth looted Rs 4.10 lakh from an iron scrap dealer at East Mohan Nagar in broad daylight here on Monday. The incident was captured in a CCTV camera. The footage is being scrutinised to identify the accused.

Senior police officials, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) JS Walia, reached the spot investigation.

The armed youth, appearing to be in their mid twenties, had covered their faces. They also took away their scooter, gold wristlet (karaa), a gold ring and three mobile phones from the victim, Ravi Shankar, who, along with his nephew Rahul Agarwal, was present in his office at the time of the incident.

Ravi Shankar, owner of Goel Steel Company, informed the police that they came to the office at around 2.30 pm as per their routine. His office has two doors, one towards the main bazaar and other leads to the godown. He said the robbers with covered faces entered the office and bolted the doors from inside. They took out a pistol and threatened to shoot them while demanding whatever they were having at that time. They took out Rs 4.10 lakh in cash from the cash box and asked them to remove the gold ornaments they were wearing. They also took away their mobiles and the fled on their scooter.

The CCTV camera at the office was dysfunctional. Later, the police stumbled upon a footage of a CCTV camera which had captured the two accused while fleeing. In the footage, the accused can be seen with covered faces passing through the bazaar on the scooter of the victim.

ADCP Walia said the police had come across a CCTV footage and further investigation was under way. A case has been registered in this regard.
