The five-day ‘106th Indian Science Congress (ISC)-2019’ concluded at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, today. The presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, four Union Cabinet Ministers, Governor VP Singh Badnore, state ministers, three Nobel Laureates and persona of nobility from diverse sectors across the globe made it grand.
The ISC saw lectures from Nobel laureates, 20 plenary sessions and several sectional symposia with top authorities from US and UK universities, DRDO, ISRO, DST, ICAR, CSIR, ICMR, AICTE, NAAC, UGC, and ISCA. Over 30,000 participants, including 15,000 delegates, attended the event.
Thirty-seven awardees in the categories of young scientists, best posters and pride of India-science exhibition were honoured at the concluding ceremony, which was attended by LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal as well. The ‘Vigyan Jyot’, which marked the commencement of the Congress, was handed over to Dr Manoj Kumar Chakrabarti, general president, Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) 2019, for the 107th ISC.
Dr Chakrabarti said: “Keep on fostering a spirit of togetherness to move forward with newer ideas for making the nation progress with leaps and bounds.” Prof KS Rangappa has been chosen the general president for the ISC 2020 to be held in Bengaluru.
