Schools with energy clubs to adopt power-saving measures

JALANDHAR:With an aim to make students learn about energy conservation, the Education Department has asked the District Education Officers (DEO) (secondary) to organise activities in schools where there is provision of energy clubs.

With an aim to make students learn about energy conservation, the Education Department has asked the District Education Officers (DEO) (secondary) to organise activities in schools where there is provision of energy clubs.  

Under Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), an amount of Rs 5,000 has already been released to the schools where there is a provision of energy clubs. 

In a circular issued to the district science supervisors and the DEO of every district, schools having energy clubs must perform some activities such as poster making, slogan writing, debate, fancy dress competition, energy conservation and awareness rallies. Other activities such as celebration of energy conservation week, energy conservation exhibition and performing plays on energy conservation would also be a part of energy conservation. So that the students get to learn about energy conservation. 

It has been said to make the students aware energy conservation, the schools must organise to creative activities The circular also mentions that the schools must organise a field visit of students to the nearby project sites, green energy building performing parks, etc, for understanding the concept of energy conservation. 

260 schools in the state with energy clubs 

There are as many as 11 schools in Jalandhar which have energy clubs in them, along with this, there are as many as 11, 10 and 15 schools in Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Nawanshahr, respectively, comprising a total of 47 schools in the Doaba region. 

Apart from it, Amritsar has 15 while Barnala has 10 schools with energy clubs. While Bathinda has 15, Faridkot has 10 and Fatehgarh Sahib also has 10 schools with energy clubs. 

In Fazilka, Ferozpur and Gurdaspur, there are as many as 10 schools each. While Ludhiana, Pathankot and Sri Muktsar Sahib have a total of 15 schools with the clubs each, Mansa and Patiala have 11 schools each. 

Roop Nagar, Sangrur and Mohali have 10 schools each with the energy club in them, whereas the energy clubs in Tarn Taran are provided in as many as 12 schools. 

District Science supervisor Baljinder Singh said that the schools have been asked to perform the activities in the month of October and November. 

“The project will really help the students to learn more about the concept, I will direct the schools to do activities in the last week of the Month,” he said.
