Ludhiana: Students of Police DAV Public School, Police Lines, Civil Lines, celebrated Janmashtami with great fervour. Students came in traditional attire representing Lord Krishna ,Radha , Sudhama, gopies and sakhas. Students left everbody awestruck by perfoming various roles of Lord Krishna. Kids danced to the tunes of devotional songs and recited bhajans. 

Shri Ram Global School

Students of Shri Ram Global School, Mall Road, celebrated Janmashtami.  Kids came in traditional attire and danced to the tunes of “Hare Rama hare Krishna”. Students also performed a group song based on the childhood of Lord Krishna. Stories of Krishna were also narrated on the occasion. Students were served with butter and mishri which was the favourite food of Krishna. Teachers explained significance of Janmashtami to the students. 

Steady Steps

Shri Krishna Janamasthami was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Steady Steps International Pre-School. Students dressed up as Krishna and Radha and enjoyed a visit to the temple.

Ved Prachar Saptah observed

DAV, BRS Nagar, observed ‘Ved prachar saptah’ held under the aegis of the Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Upsabha. Each day began with a dainik hawan and students recited mantras and learnt important values of life. This was followed by explanation of 10 principles of Arya Samaj by students. Importance of being polite and humble was stressed upon through couplets and causes of social evils and measures to eradicate the same were discussed in a talk show. A skit exhorted students to weigh each action of theirs on the basis of ethics. Poem recitation, speeches and hymns encouraged students to direct their energies towards physical, spiritual and social growth for a prosperous nation.

DAV Public School 

To promote the learning and preaching of ancient Vedas, the Arya Yuva Samaj unit of DAV Public School,Pakhowal Road, organised “Ved Prachar Saptah”. Speech on “Mata pita aur Guru ka sammaan” by Bhavuk Jain and one-act play on the life of Swami Dayanand’s life by students left the audience awestruck. Principal Dr Satwant Kaur Bhullar, president, Arya Yuva Samaj, Punjab, said the DAV is an organisation that is solely devoted to propagate and promote eternal values and wisdom of vedas among the masses.

Clean India mission observed 

Students of GMT Public School celebrated “Swachh Bharat” mission that was initiated on the 145 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2014. Students participated in various activities, including planting saplings, personal hygiene, cleaning surroundings, painting, essay writing etc. Students planted various types of saplings on the campus. 

Biography reading contest

An inter-house biography reading competition was held at Green Grove Public School. Students representing different houses enacted as Kapil Sharma, Barrack Obama, Albert Einstein, Anne Frank, Sridevi, Charle Chaplion, Sushmita Sen, Don Bradman, Agatha Christi, Kiran Bedi, Neerja Bhanot, Kailash Satyarthi, Khushwant Singh, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Muppet Master, Martina, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Gurdas Mann and so on. 

Workshop for teachers held

Sat Paul Mittal School conducted a one-day workshop for teachers on “Appreciating inter cultural links”in collaboration with AFS India. Resource person Sarita Badhwar from AFS India (think tank) conducted an interactive and informative session on the need for increased cultural competence. AFS is an international NGO which provides inter cultural opportunities for students to develop 21st century skills, including communication, collaboration and critical thinking. Teachers were briefed on critical topics, including cultural self-awareness, concepts of culture and awareness of general cultural differences.

Principal honoured

Harmeet Kaur Waraich, principal, Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Park, has been awarded with “DR S Radhakrishnan Samman” by Avantika. Waraich was awarded at a state-level function organised at Sheela Rani Tangri DAV Public School, Bilga. She received the award for her remarkable contribution in nation building, social welfare, environment protection, education and promotion of Indian art, culture, dance and music.

National Nutrition Week

“National Nutrition Week” was observed at Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Park. Students from Class VI to Class XII participated in salad making and mocktail competition with great enthusiasm. Students from the Sahibzada Ajit Singh House, Sahibzada Fateh Singh House, Sahibzada Jujhar Singh House and Sahibzada Zorawar Singh House participated in the event. They used fruits and vegetables, including banana, apple, pineapple, tomato, avocado, cucumber, tomato, onion, sprouts of black gram, pulses, boiled white gram, beans etc to prepare salad. However, in mocktail competition, students used lemons, mint leaves, tulsi leave, mango, mausami, orange etc. — TNS
