Gurtej Singh Sandhu, a senior fellow and vice-president at Micron Technology, INC, on Friday scripted history by becoming the first alumnus of Guru Nanak Dev University(GNDU), who received honoris causa degree on the varsity’s golden jubilee year convocation.

He expressed his happiness over the development and stressed upon need promote high technology among Punjabis. He said, “ I am attending my first convocation at GNDU. I never collected my own degrees. It is indeed special. Punjabis residing abroad are leading technologically, however, Punjab is not leading in this sector. The state government should take steps to ensure that people see opportunity in Punjab. Everyone does not want to move out.”

While sharing his views on artificial intelligence, he said, “The artificial intelligence is beginning. It will have a positive impact in our daily lives.” He talked upon importance of reading and how university library played a huge role in his life.

“I was very active in sports but during summer vacation, there was no one on the campus. I was completely bored. I went to the university library and picked up books on multiple subjects. I enjoyed reading for these two-three months. I was reading out of joy. It was in this very moment I realised the value of self-learning. Self-learning is the most important thing in life,” he added.
