Gurkirat Kaur Birdie
AN account of the valour of Sikh warriors of the 18th century who helped avert the peril threatening the country, the book has been written by a veteran of the Indian Air Force. The book attempts to unearth the military tools and techniques deployed by Sikhs warriors, who fought many battles but a detailed account of their wars is not available anywhere. Besides encapsulating the battle tactics, the book looks at the art of rapid re-grouping and military acumen penned down by Guru Gobind Singh in Zafarnama and Qazi Nur Mohammad in Jangnama.
The reader visits various battles fought by Guru Gobind Singh and Banda Bahadur. Finally, the author takes us through nine invasions of Ahmad Shah Abdali. It is during the seventh invasion that Qazi Nur Mohammad accompanying the expedition documented the war. He illustrated the events in the form of commentary through Persian couplets. The book will prove useful to scholars researching Sikh history, military establishments and students.
