Two unidentified persons robbed a gas agency’s cashier of Rs 8.84 lakh at gunpoint in Batala Road area here on Monday. The victim, Bharat Bhushan, is an employee of Sikka Gas Agency.

He left the office at 3.15 pm to deposite the cash with a bank. The accused, who were already waiting him near the office, chased Bharat Bhushan and tried to intercept him a few metres away from the gas agency office. Bharat Bhushan swiftly took a turn and entered a scrap dealer’s shop to get shelter. The accused persons attacked Bhushan with a sharp-edge weapon, leaving him badly injured. One of the accused, who possessed a pistol, pointed it towards Bhushan’s head and ordered him to hand over his bag. They snatched the bag from him and fled from the spot.

The incident has been captured in a CCTV camera installed inside the shop. Bharat Bhushan was taken to nearby private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Bharat Bhushan has been working as cashier at Sikka Gas Agency for the last 22 years. He visits the State Bank of India’s Batala road branch for depositing cash in routine.

Anuj Sikka, owner of the agency, said, “The city police have failed to maintain the law and order. Robbers are roaming in broad daylight without any fear. The police should identify and arrest the accused.”

Inspector Sukhraj Singh of the Mohkampura police station reached the spot on Tuesday to collect the CCTV footage. “We have been investigating the matter. The CCTV footage will help us identify the accused. We hope that they will be in police custody very soon,” he said.

The case has been registered against the robbers.
