Sonepat, January 6
Kavita Jain, Urban Local Bodies Minister, today laid the foundation stone of a Rs 58-crore drinking water supply project in the town.
The project will cater to the need of the residents of 16 colonies in Sonepat town and 10 villages, included within the Municipal Corporation limit.
Speaking on the occasion, Jain said pipelines of around 190 km in length, including 118 km in the town area and 72 km in the villages, would be laid for carrying water supply.
“There will be four boosting stations that will ensure uninterrupted water supply,” she said. Jain said the project was likely to be completed within 15 months. She said after the completion of the project, every resident living in the areas under the corporation would get at least 135 litres of water.
Rajiv Jain, state media in-charge, BJP, said it was for the first time that Rs 250 crore was being spent for the development works in Sonepat, since it was upgraded as a district in 1972.
Later, the minister also laid the foundation stones of a community centre at old tehsil complex in the town and Balmiki chaupal in Lehrada village.
