Chandigarh, July 12
A local court today framed charges against an inmate of the Burail jail who had siphoned off Rs 26.97 lakh from the bank account of the jail after stealing cheques.
The charges have been framed under Sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as a genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian Penal Code.
Amandeep Singh, alias Aman, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, had fraudulently transferred a sum of Rs 26.97 lakh from the account of the Deputy Jail Superintendent to his account. The accused, who was lodged at the jail then, had stolen blank cheques from the jail storeroom. The accused, after getting released from the jail, forged the Deputy Superintendent’s signatures. The crime came to light later, following which a case was registered against the accused and he was arrested in December last year. — TNS
