Muktsar, November 13

At an ongoing job fair organised here by the district administration, a private company is offering the job of a security guard in Gujarat at a monthly salary of Rs 11,000.

A group of youths said the state government was playing a cruel joke on them by inviting companies that were offering jobs at a faraway place, and that too at a paltry salary. “Inflation has broken the back of commoners. But the government is not bothered,” said Rishab Kumar, adding that he would not attend the job fair.

Youths at the local government college said the administration should have asked the companies to offer a respectable salary package. “Is it possible to go hundreds of kilometres away from home for Rs 11,000 per month?” they asked.

A spokesperson for the district administration said various companies were offering salary of Rs 14,000 in Muktsar town as well.

MK Aravind Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, said, “The event is being held to provide jobs to about 2,000 youth. Private companies will recruit youths as per their qualifications and requirements. Some matriculates may be getting jobs at a salary of Rs 11,000, but it is according to the norms of the Labour and Employment Department.”
