Ropar, May 16

People of Brahman Majra village near Nurpur Bedi have announced to opt for NOTA while casting their vote on Sunday.

After a meeting held at the village this morning, villagers said politicians from all parties had failed to provide education and health facilities in the area. They said such meetings also would be held in other villages of the area to convince people to opt for NOTA.

Narinder Singh, a leader of the Punjab Students Union from the village, said there were nearly 150 villages in the Nurpur Bedi area for which only one hospital was set up by the state government.

“This hospital lacks manpower as well as diagnostic facilities due to which a majority of patients are referred to Ropar,” he said.

“Our village school was elevated from elementary to middle eight years ago. But the government failed in appointing required number to teachers due to which parents withdrew their wards from the school following which the school was again converted to elementary school,” he said.

Other villagers said parties instead of talking about the problems being faced by them had resorted to mudslinging on each other. Nobody was talking about suicides by farmers or unemployment, they added.
