Ropar MC seeks Class-I status

ROPAR: The Ropar Municipal Council (MC) passed a resolution, seeking to Class-I status for the civic body, today. The resolution will be sent to the government for approval. Currently, the MC has Class-II status.

The Ropar Municipal Council (MC) passed a resolution, seeking to Class-I status for the civic body, today. The resolution will be sent to  the government for approval. Currently, the MC has Class-II status. 

MC president Paramjit Singh Makkar said  the civic body had earned over Rs 10 crore in the past two years, making it fit for elevation to Class-I. Local MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa, who also attended the MC meeting today, said the Bodies Minister  had promised to provide a grant of Rs 5 crore for development works in town. 

Sandoa said he had written to Executive Officer of the municipal council to prepare estimates for developments works to be undertaken with the grant, but he failed to prepare  the estimates. Executive Officer Mohit Sharma said it took time to prepare estimates of development   works, adding that these would be prepared soon. — TNS
