Ludhiana, December 5

Around eight armed men entered a house in Jandiali village, Jamalpur, last night and made off with two gold earrings after attacking the family with sticks. The house belongs to a farmer, Gurmel Singh.

A case under Section 458 (lurking around a house, trespass or breaking into a house at night after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 459 (grievous hurt caused during these crimes), IPC, has been registered.

The investigating officer, SI Harbhajan Singh, in charge of Ramgarh police post, said the incident occurred around 1.30 am on Wednesday when all members of the family were asleep.

“While all members of the family were asleep, around eight armed men entered the house by scaling the boundary wall. They first entered the room of Gurmel’s mother Gurdev Kaur. They asked her to hand them cash and valuables kept in the house. When she raised the alarm, the assailants attacked her with sticks,” said Harbhajan.

Harbhajan said the other members of the family awakened to Gurdev Kaur’s cries. They were also beaten up by the robbers. The robbers ransacked the entire house but they could not find any cash or valuables. They snatched the Gurdev’s gold earrings before fleeing the scene.

Another police official said apart from Gurmel and his mother Gurdev, the other members of the family who suffered injuries were Gurmel’s daughter-in-law Rajwant Kaur, his tenant Harbans Lal and children. They were rushed to the nearby hospital where the doctors discharge them after first aid.

“We are checking CCTV footage to get a clue about the robbers. According to the preliminary investigation, the robbers did not park any two-wheeler or four-wheeler in front of the house. It could be possible that they had parked their vehicle away from the house,” said the SI.
