The 30th Road Safety Week observance began with a motorcycle rally here on Monday.

To strengthen this nobel concept, the traffic police celebrated this week as a first step, said Paramjit Singh, inspector, traffic police.

After commencing from the traffic police office, the rally passed through different parts of the city, including Bhandari Railway Overbridge, Novelty Chowk, to create awareness among people about traffic rules and regulations.

The rally was flagged off by DCP Amrik Singh Pawar and ADCP (Traffic) Dilbagh Singh.

Later, Traffic Education Cell held a seminar on road safety at Bhavan’s SL Public School. Students of 24 schools took part in an essay contest on subjects of traffic rules and accidents.

Class VIII students Gurleen Kaur of Sri Guru Harkrishan School, Harprableen Kaur of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Kot Baba Deep Singh, got the first and second position respectively, while Avneet Kaur, a Class IX student of DAV International School, got the third position.
