Ferozepur, January 6

The Railway authorities have again put onus on the state government for the inordinate delay in providing land for the construction of the “crucial” 25.47-km-long Ferozepur-Patti rail link. The rail link has the potential to shorten the distance between the northern states, including Punjab, and the trade capitals of Gujarat and Maharastra to a large extent.

TP Singh, General Manager, Northern Railway, said the Railways had taken up the matter with the state government and several meetings were held at the Chief Secretary level to expedite the process of acquiring land. However nothing tangible had been done so far.

The rail link will reduce the distance between Ferozepur and Amritsar from 118 km to 86 km. The distance between Amritsar and Mumbai will be shortened by 240 km. — OC
