Rewari, February 18

Sepoy Hari Singh Chauhan (26) of the 55 Rashtriya Rifles, who lost his life in an encounter with terrorists at Pulwama district in Kashmir in the wee hours on Monday, belonged to an Army family.

His father, Agdi Singh Chauhan, served in the Grenadiers Regiment, while his uncle, Vijay Singh, is retried and cousin brother Sunil Kumar is a serving Hawaldar with the Center Reserve Police Force.

Hari Singh was the resident of Rajgarh village located on the border of Haryana and Rajasthan.

“Hari Singh was so passionate about the Indian Army that he started preparing to join the Army after matriculation instead of pursuing higher study. His dream came true in 2011 when he got selected in the Army but the year also gave him a major setback as he lost his father during his training period,” said Ranjeet Singh, cousin of Hari Singh, adding that he was the only brother of three sisters.

He informed Hari Singh got married in 2016 and was blessed with a boy in April 2018. His mother- Pista Devi- had not yet been informed about the martyrdom of her son.
However, the villagers had started gathering after hearing this tragic news, he claimed.

Rajesh Bholu, a close friend of Hari, said he came to the village for a month-long vacation on November 27 last year and went back to Kashmir on December 28.

Hari possessed the feeling of patriotism since his childhood and always talked about the condition of Kashmir when he came to the village. Even, he always motivated me to join the Army stating that no other service is bigger than fighting for the sake of nation,” said Bholu, who is preparing for Army examination.

Govardhan, sarpanch of Rajgarh village, said body of Hari Singh was likely to bring to the village in the evening for cremation.

“Entire villagers are proud of Hari who made supreme sacrifice for the nation,” said the sarpanch.
