Perturbed over the inaction of the administration to repair the dilapidated condition of roads, residents of the Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar locality held a dharna. They put up a banner displaying ‘No Road-No Vote’. The banner has been put up at the entry point of the area.

The irate protesters raised slogans against politicians and the Municipal Corporation (MC). They warned the politicians not to enter the locality to seek votes. They said they would not to cast vote this time.

Residents, including Surinder Mittal, former member District Consumer Forum and members of Mohalla committee, including Surinder Singh, Harjinder Kaur, Manjit Kaur, Rajeev Salwan, and Navdeep Singh told mediapersons here today that the residents were residing in a miserable condition due to the poor condition of the road.

They said: “Neither any politician nor any official of the Municipal Corporation (MC) took any initiative in this regard. They alleged that they approached the authorities concerned, Mayor Arun Khosla and Phagwara MLA Som Parkash but to no avail.

Raj Kumar Gupta, BJP Municipal Commissioner, Udham Singh Nagar, had to face a tough time when he went to pacify the residents yesterday.

He said a grant of Rs 45 lakh was sanctioned for the development of the area but it had not been spent by the MC till now.
