Residents block road over illegal occupation of shop

SAMRALA: Residents of Samrala area, including former Akali Dal MLA Jagjiwan Singh Khirnia and some shopkeepers, today blocked traffic on Ludhiana-Chandigarh Road at Samrala for some time against some persons said to be supporters of the Congress for illegal occupation of a shop.

Residents of Samrala area, including former Akali Dal MLA Jagjiwan Singh Khirnia and some shopkeepers, today blocked traffic on Ludhiana-Chandigarh Road at Samrala for some time against some persons said to be supporters of the Congress for illegal occupation of a shop.

As per information, some persons in the wee hours today broke open the locks of a shop and decamped with cash of Rs 13,000, six sewing machines, two counters and some clothes. When the news spread in the town, residents, including former MLA Khirnia, reached the spot as the owner of the shop, Paramjit Singh Bedi, is said to be an Akali Dal supporter.

Meanwhile, the protesters blocked traffic on GT road and demanded action against the alleged accused. Later, a case was registered against Tejpal Singh, Jagroop Singh and others under Sections 380, 448, 511 and 506 of the IPC in this regard. The police also recovered the stolen items and handed over to the shop owner. Due to this blockade, the commuters had to face difficulties to reach their destinations.

Meanwhile, Samrala SHO Sukhvir Singh said they were conducting raids to nab the alleged accused.
