Rape accused commits suicide in Muktsar jail

A teacher in his early-fifties, who was booked for allegedly raping a student about three months ago, committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan at the district jail here on Saturday.

The deceased, Tarlochan Singh, was a resident of Muktsar town and a teacher at a private school at Rahurianwali village near here.

The jail staff has recovered a suicide note from the deceased. Though nobody gave the details of this note, the staff said the deceased had not blamed anyone from the jail for taking the extreme step.

Meanwhile, Kulwant Singh, brother-in-law of the deceased, met Muktsar SSP Manjit Singh Dhesi on Saturday and demanded that the girl, who had lodged the ‘false’ complaint against the deceased, and her family should be booked.
