17 checkpoints set up to maintain order in P’kula

PANCHKULA: Even as the Special CBI Court has allowed production of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim and three other convicts through video-conferencing for pronouncing the quantum of sentence in Ramchandra Chhatrapati murder case tomorrow, the local police are taking no chances and have set up 17 checkpoints to ensure law and order is maintained in the city.

Even as the Special CBI Court has allowed production of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim and three other convicts through video-conferencing for pronouncing the quantum of sentence in Ramchandra Chhatrapati murder case tomorrow, the local police are taking no chances and have set up 17 checkpoints to ensure law and order is maintained in the city.

At present, four companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the city, anticipating the gathering of a large number of devotees in the city since January 6. These forces had taken their positions at the strategic points in the city.

According to police sources, checking was conducted at main shopping complexes, malls, the Courts Complex and strategic points in the city to prevent the movement of unscrupulous elements. The roads leading to the Courts Complex has been barricaded and PCR vans are being deployed in the markets.

Platoon commanders have been positioned in and around the Courts Complex and were keeping a watch on anti-social elements.

Kamaldeep Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said they were keeping a close eye on the situation. He said Section 144 of the CrPC was already in force in the city. Watch was also being kept on the railway station and the bus terminal to check the inflow of people, he added.
