Rajiv Gandhi Lok Bhalai Manch today celebrated the birthday of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. A cake was cut to mark the occasion. Chairman of the Manch, Dr Satpal Bhateja, demanded that a chowk be named after Rajiv Gandhi and his statue installed in the city.
Bhateja said he would soon write a letter to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in this regard. ML Arora, principal, St Kabir School, was the chief guest at the function.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Bhateja said Rajiv Gandhi has given a lot to the country in terms of technology. He listed giving voting rights at the age of 18, devolution of powers to panchayati raj institutions and computerisation as some of his initiatives. Gursewak Singh Brar, Inderjeet Singh Sahni, Surinder Mohan Bhola and Arun Wadhwan were present on the occasion.
