In his address at the first session of the new state Assembly, Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh today accused the former BJP government of getting “distracted” from more important issues as it tried to find flaws with the Congress-led regime before it.

“The previous BJP government had lost its path of development in addressing useless issues like finding flaws with its previous government. As a result, the average economic growth declined from 8.6 per cent (2014-15) to 7.19 per cent (2017-18),” Singh said, adding: “The previous BJP government has left a debt and liability burden of Rs3.83 lakh crore on the state exchequer in the current fiscal year as against Rs1.29 lakh crore in 2013-14 when the previous Congress government lost the polls.”

Opposition MLAs of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party and CPM interrupted Singh, drawing attention of the Gehlot government on non-purchasing of “moong” from peasants who were sitting in open fields for 10 days.

As soon as the Governor stood up for the address, RLP leader Hanuman Beniwal alleged the farmers were waiting for “moong” sale and many of them were not given ‘token’ for purchase so far. He also made personal remarks against the Governor’s health. Amid chaos, Singh just read the last paragraph of the 38-page speech and was given a departure within 18 minutes of the proceedings. — OC
