Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ruining the economy, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said his government’s divisive policies had pushed the economy into its worst crisis.

He targeted Modi over unemployment, demonetisation and inflation, saying India was facing the highest unemployment rate. He was addressing a ‘Parivartan Rally’ organised by Rao Daan Singh here. Congress president Sonia Gandhi was scheduled to address the rally, but could not make it.

“Manmohan Singh toiled to improve the economy, but Modi ruined it. He is taking out money from the pocket of the common man and putting it in the pocket of big business houses,” Rahul said.

“The MGNREGA ensured employment to the poor, but Modi government criticised it. His government has waived loans and corporate tax worth thousands of crores, but is not paying heed to farmers in debt who are committing suicide,” he said.

He claimed Modi government was promoting privatisation instead of providing employment. He said Modi was diverting attention by raising issues which had nothing to do with public interest.
