R-Day preparations in full swing

The district-level Republic Day function would be celebrated at Guru Nanak Stadium on January 26. School Education, Food Processing and Freedom Fighters Minister OP Soni would be the chief guest and hoist the national flag.

More than 2,000 students from different schools, including government schools would participate in the event. A review meeting in this regard was chaired by Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal at Guru Nanak Stadium today.

Agrawal said the administration was trying to ensure maximum participation of students from government schools during the Republic Day. He said students from 57 schools, including from 29 government schools would take part in the cultural function. Other students would be from 18 aided schools and 10 private schools of the district.

The DC urged the government departments to celebrate Republic Day with full enthusiasm. Families of freedom fighters would also be honoured on the occasion. He informed that the function would start at 9.58 am. Rehearsals for would go own on January 22 and 23, while the full dress rehearsal would be held on January 24.

The DC said both Republic Day and Independence Day are our national festivals and all residents should celebrate them with fervour, communal harmony and national integration.

He directed the officials to perform their duties with utmost devotion. The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation officials were directed to ensure cleanliness of the entire city. Agrawal appealed residents to attend the function.
