Chandigarh, December 17

The UT Education Department had sought information regarding pending claims for reimbursement to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) students from private schools, the due date of which was on Monday.

For entry class, the schools are required to submit information regarding claims for reimbursement of per child expenditure for 2016-17 and 2017-18. The Education Department claimed to have already paid dues for 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2015-16. Further, the department has sought pending claims for three years.

The fee reimbursement is made against 25% admissions under the EWS category under Section 12(1) (c) of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009. The proposal for fee reimbursement was inclusive for the period from 2010-11 to 2015-16.

The amount for 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 will be officially notified by the UT after a high-profile committee will review the rates decided by the Education Department officials.

The UT had notified per child cost of Rs 1,370 for 2014-15 and reimbursed Rs 20.73 lakh to 25 private schools for admission of 131 children.

For 2014-15, a partial amount of Rs 750 was paid as many schools did not submit documents to claim the refund. The department has now asked for application forms attested with documents, attendance register, admission withdrawal register, result register and fee register.
