Chandigarh, February 5

Billu Ram Bhatt Puppet Group presented a string puppet play, 'Shravan Kumar', in Hindi and Rajasthani language on the second day of the International Puppet Festival at the Tagore Theatre here on Tuesday.

'Shravan Kumar' is a character in the Ramayana who epitomised respect, reverence and devotion for his blind and disabled parents. As the legend goes that while taking them on a pilgrimage, he was mistaken for a boar by king Dashratha who was on a hunting spree as Shravan taking water on the bank of a river. After fatally shooting Shravan with an arrow, the king apologised to Shravan's parents. — OC
