PU employee ends his life

CHANDIGARH: A Class IV employee of Panjab University reportedly committed suicide in the washroom of his house on the PU campus this morning.

Chandigarh, January 18

A Class IV employee of Panjab University reportedly committed suicide in the washroom of his house on the PU campus this morning. The victim has been identified as Amarjit Kumar.

The victim’s wife, Neeru, in her statement to the police, said her husband went to the washroom around 6 am. However, when he did not return, she went to check and found him hanging from a pipe.

She removed the cloth from the victim’s neck and lifted the victim along with her two kids. The victim was taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, in a Panjab University ambulance. Doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead. 

The police received information about the incident  from the hospital authorities around 8.45 am. The police reached the hospital and initiated an investigation into the matter. 

Meanwhile, inquest proceedings have been initiated by the police at the Sector 11 police station. 

The victim is survived by his wife and two children, aged 12 and seven.
