Bathinda, May 10

Various unions of PSPCL workers under the banner of the Technical Services Union (TSU) on Friday staged a protest in front of the office of the Chief Engineer (West Zone) in the city. Later, they took out a protest march in the city against the state government over their long-pending demands.

The unions which participated in the protest were TSU circle Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda , POWERCOM and TRANSCO contractor workers’ union, contractor employees’ action committee, thermal contract committee coordination committee, etc. The protest was headed by Rachpal Singh.

Addressing the protest, Swaran Singh Aulakh, Jarnail Singh, Narinder Kumar, Jagroop Singh and others said reinstatement of dismissed employees, withdrawal of move to curtail 33 per cent pension, new regular recruitment, regularisation of contractor and temporary employees were some of major demands.

They said during the Lok Sabha election, the real issues pertaining to employees were missing and all the parties had not cleared their stand towards them. They said a large number of post were lying vacant at Transco and Powercom, due to which workers were burdened with overwork.
