PSPCL beats SGPC Hockey Academy in opener

Making an impressive victorious start, Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) defeated SPGC Hockey Academy 8-6 on the first day of Baba Farid Gold Cup Hockey Tournament on Thursday. The match was played at Astroturf ground of Barjindera College here. Kotkapura SDM Balwinder Singh inaugurated the 28th tournament.

In all, 12 national hockey teams are participating in the tournament this time. The teams participating include Punjab police, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala, Punjab and Sind Bank Academy, CRPF New Delhi, CISF New Delhi, BSF Jalandhar, EME Jalandhar, Corps of Signals Jalandhar, Surjit Academy Jalandhar, Maharaja Ranjit Singh academy Amritsar, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited Patiala and SGPC Amritsar.

The tournament will conclude on September 23.

Last year, Indian Air Force had shoot out RCF to win title. However, the last year winner is not participating this time due to pre-engagement.
