Provide night tarrif at Rs 4 per unit: Industrialists

A delegation of the Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisation (FICO), under the chairmanship of Gurmeet Singh Kular, president, FICO met and welcomed the newly appointed Chief Engineer DPS Grewal.

The delegation discussed several issues with the official, including night tariff. The delegation said the night tariff should be introduced @ Rs 4 per unit to industry, as Punjab was a power surplus state. They said due to winters, demand of electricity at night was not much thus the benefit of surplus power should be provided to industry as power is a raw material.

They added that huge amount of power was being wasted due to non-consumption at night as electricity cannot be stored and can only be utilized.

Further, the delegation said the concept of general over switch should be restored at least for industrial units in Ludhiana. They said the PSPCL should work on preventive measures for uninterrupted power supply in foggy season. The members added that last year, Focal Points and industrial areas witnessed more than eight trippings per day.
