Chandigarh, December 3
The Cabinet today recommended calling three-day winter session of the Vidhan Sabha, beginning from December 13. The session would be held ahead of the panchayat elections.
A decision to this effect was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. The Cabinet authorised the Punjab Governor to convene the 6th session of the 15th Vidhan Sabha.
It recommended commencing of the session on the afternoon of December 13 with obituary references. Legislative business would be transacted in both morning and evening sessions on December 14. The House would adjourn sine die after the proposed legislative business on December 15.
Sangrur: Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Dirba AAP MLA Harpal Singh Cheema accused the Congress government of betraying the people by calling a short Assembly session.
Cheema said he had written to the Speaker last week and demanded a 15-day session at least with live streaming of the proceedings.
“It is a mere formality to call a three-day session. The decision has exposed the non-serious attitude of the government towards the problems of the people,” alleged Cheema.
“The state is facing serious law and order problems. There is resentment among people due to delay in punishment to culprits involved in sacrilege and police firing cases. We need to discuss these matters in the Assembly, but the government is unwilling,” he alleged.
