Jalandhar, December 31

Finally, New Year has arrived and everyone would be promising to their gods at the start of the year that they will change an undesired trait, accomplish a personal goal or otherwise would improve their life.

With time, New Year’s resolutions have evolved as a tradition in our lives, from losing some weight to organising wardrobe, these stand for a promise — to make things better in the year ahead. Hence, we asked local residents what are their resolutions, not only for themselves but also for their beloved city.

Kanwarpreet Singh, media professional

My New Year resolution will be to forget the tough times of 2018 and carry forward learning experiences to work even harder and better. I will try to be more grounded and spread happiness and smiles in my surroundings as a smile is a free gift that anyone can give. Overall development of self, keeping loved ones happy and grooming myself spiritually have been and will be the resolution for the next 365 days.

Gursimran Kaur, a student

Like every year, this year too my first resolution will be to lose weight and follow my diet sincerely. I will spend less time on social networking sites and will take up baking classes as it was my long-pending wish. I have further decided to spend some time every Sunday with destitutes living in orphanages, special homes and Prayas School.

Agam Sachdeva, a businessman

Everyone has something to say. At some point, people will judge you or your work. But this New Year, I make it a point that I will not let criticism to stop me from starting and doing things the way I should do. I am looking forward to take my ventures ahead and be more professional. My resolution for a better city would be to try and help out people and sensitise them to keep the environment clean and follow traffic rules.

Gaurav Ajmera, an engineer

My resolution for 2019 will be to follow road safety rules and make an effort to keep public places clean. I would also like to make a request to fellow residents to join in with their resolutions and ensure that no damage to public property or environment is done in the coming year. Also, I am a fitness freak, hence, will take up a resolution not to miss my workout.
