The Education Department has asked primary schools to fill in their details on the ePunjab School web portal for grading of these schools.

The schools had earlier failed to upload the data due to technical errors. Now, they have been asked to upload data within seven days. The schools have to give information on various modules such as school results, infrastructure, co-curricular activities, SMC and public contribution and attendance of student.

Instructions have been issued to all district-level education officers and school principals regarding the uploading of data. The grading is usually done to evaluate the development of the school in terms of these parameters.

Deputy District Education Officer (Elementary education) Rekha Mahajan said: “All modules are part of our twenty-point programme. The programme talks about best twenty points about best schools. The grading will bring in clarity for all of us. Schools will be ranked on various grades, depending upon their status. This year, primary schools will be ranked. I have been motivating schools and staff to improve in every aspect.”

Pankaj Sharma, a middle school teacher, said: “Last year, the collection of data was restricted to schools at secondary level and senior secondary level. Now, all schools have been included. Most of the schools are not even aware of their performances. The grading will enable us to work on our shortcoming. It is going to start a healthy competition among schools and students for a better grade.”
