Skipper Prabhsimaran Singh and Salil Arora hit contrasting centuries to help Punjab beat hosts Hyderabad by an innings and 66 runs in their Cooch Behar Trophy match at the Gymkhana Ground on Wednesday.   

Trailing Punjab by 201 runs, the hosts were bowled out for 135 runs in their second innings. Sumit Sharma was the wrecker-in-chief for the visitors, claiming 6/39. Ketan Mankotia took 3/34, while Vashish Mehra bagged 1/24.

Hyderabad batsmen dished out yet another disappointing performance as only three of them were able to score in double digits. While skipper Tilak Verma remained unbeaten on 69, M Pratyush and wicketkeeper-batsman Sagar Chaurasia made 18 and 16 runs respectively.   

Earlier, resuming the day on 384/7, Punjab added 24 runs to their overnight total. Arora, who was batting on 83 at the close of play on Tuesday, managed to score 101 runs before he fell to Ajay Dev Goud on 410. His 135-ball stay in the middle was studded with 15 boundaries and three sixes. 

Goud then dismissed Amit Shukla (15) and Ketan Mehta (0) in one over to wrap up the Punjab innings. 

The speedster was the most effective bowler for the hosts. He took 4/63 in 21.5 overs. Amith Kumar Singh and C Hitesh Yadav bagged two wickets apiece.  

Yesterday, Punjab had rode on skipper Prabhsimran Singh’s 71-ball 102 to reach 387/7 after the hosts were all out for 210 runs in their first innings. The wicketkeeper-batsman hit 10 fours and seven sixes in his innings.

Opener Pukhraj Mann (62) and Sumit Sharma (53) added a half-century each to the total.
