Jammu, October 11

Postpaid mobile phones are likely to ring again in the Kashmir valley after a long gap of 68 days as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to resume the services in the Valley after a series of meetings since Thursday.

After lifting travel advisory for tourists in the Kashmir valley, the MHA immediately started consulting different agencies, departments and stakeholders in a series of meetings in New Delhi.

According to reports, the MHA has decided to restore post-paid mobile services in Kashmir, but the pre-paid mobiles and Internet services will continue to remain suspended till further orders.

The decision was taken in view of restoring tourism industry of J&K, which had suffered extensive loss after the abrogation of Article 370.

All the landline telephones were made functional in the Kashmir valley on September 4 in a phased manner. Mobile and broadband services have already been restored in the Jammu region, barring mobile Internet.
