Post-Pulwama attack, colleges counsel Kashmiri students

Post-Pulwama attack on the CRPF jawans, owners of local college campuses, which have Kashmiri students, have begun holding counselling sessions for them.

Since the students have had a sense of insecurity, especially after the police arrested Kashmiri students from two campuses here, the colleges have assured them safety while urging them to maintain peace and discipline. The district police has stepped up security outside all college campuses having Kashmiri students. A vehicle of the police now remains deployed at all colleges to check any untoward incident.The colleges have also counselled and warned Kashmiri students against putting up any anti-national post on social media. The college authorities are even calling up their parents and asking them to ensure that their children do not indulge in any pro-Pakistan activity as this could put them in risk.

Manbir Singh of CT Institute said: “There are some 500-plus Kashmiri students on our campuses in Jalandhar. I got them all assembled yesterday and urged them not to show any pro-Pakistan approach at any forum, including in social media groups. I clearly warned them that the institute would not allow any such student to continue who gets engaged in any wrong act.”

LPU, where over 300 Kashmiri students are studying, organised a peace march just a day after the Pulwama attack.

“We made all students, including Kashmiris, participate in it. A student on the campus said: “Initially, I was a bit insecure because of a police scanner on us that ensues after such incidents. But being in the company of my friends and having discussed it all with them at length, I am not restive now.”

The colleges shared that after the attack, the intelligence as well as the local police had again sought fresh update of data of their students from them. — TNS
