Chandigarh, March 29

Ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections later this year, the Khattar government is gearing up for a mega recruitment drive in its boards and corporations.

To kick-start the recruitment process in boards and corporations, the Chief Secretary’s Office has sought information about the sanctioned, filled and vacant posts in government bodies from their managing directors and chief administrators.

The information has been sought for all posts in Group A, B, C and D in all boards and corporations so that the recruitment process could be started after the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections ends in May, sources said.

The sources said while there had been recruitment in government departments, the boards and corporations were facing an acute shortage of staff, adversely affecting their administrative functioning. The communication from Chief Secretary’s Office seeking the vacancy position is a preliminary exercise before the initiation of the recruitment process.

After compiling the information received from the boards and corporations, a formal requisition would be sent to the statutory bodies such as Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) and Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) to start the recruitment process, the sources asserted. The BJP government, especially Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, likes to take credit for ensuring transparency in the government job recruitments. In fact, the BJP government has even reaped electoral dividends, including its wins in five MC elections and the Jind Assembly bypoll, on account of the much-touted transparency in government recruitments.

The BJP government claims that it has provided about 58,000 government jobs on merit during its tenure of over four years. The party had made transparency in the recruitment of over 18,000 Class IV employees as a major election issue in the Jind bypoll.

The sources asserted that “transparent and merit-based” recruitments in boards and corporations would stand the BJP in good stead in the run-up to the Assembly elections due in October.
